Any module repeated or resit assessment completed during an award year shall be subject to a capped mark. The maximum mark that may be awarded for a repeated module/resit assessment is 40%, irrespective of the actual mark achieved in the repeat/resit assessment.

This cap shall apply where a student:

  • Resits a failed assessment in the award year;
  • Re-registers to repeat a module previously failed in the award year.

For the purposes award classification, the capped mark of 40% shall be recorded as the official result for the repeated module where the pass threshold is achieved.

Exceptions

Exceptions to this policy may apply in circumstances where:

  • A student is repeating a module due to approved mitigating circumstances;
  • A regulatory or professional body requires an alternative assessment approach;
  • The repeat/resit is classified as a first sitting under institutional regulations.

Any exception must be formally approved through the institution’s established academic governance procedures.
