Students can appeal decisions made by the Academic Integrity Panel.

  • Appeals must be submitted within 10 working days of receiving communications from the Registrar’s Office.
  • Appeals must meet at least one of the outlined grounds for appeal (listed below).
  • The Appeals Committee reviews the case and decides whether to keep, reduce, or increase the penalty.
  • The Appeals Committee’s decision is final.

Grounds for Appeal

  • That there is new evidence or evidence which was, for good cause, not presented to the Disciplinary committee which might reasonably have resulted in a different decision
  • That there were procedural irregularities (including administrative error) such as might give rise to reasonable doubt as to whether the Disciplinary committee would have reached the same decision had they not occurred
  • That the findings of the Disciplinary Committee do not warrant the resolution that there was a breach of discipline where charged
  • That the penalty imposed by the Committee was unreasonable having regard to all the circumstances of the case

Structure of the Appeals Committee

A new Appeal Committee is assembled for each hearing, composed of Registrar along with a representative from each of the following groups:

  • The School of Business and Social Sciences
  • The School of Computing
  • The Academic Council
  • The NCI Student’s Union

*Note: Four members of the Appeals Committee shall constitute a quorum. The Appeals Committee will be composed of an entirely different group from the Academic Integrity Committee.

Important Rules During Investigations

Students involved in an academic integrity case have certain rights:

  • They can attend hearings and explain their situation.
  • They may bring witnesses or representation.
  • They will receive written notice about hearings and decisions.

The college may still proceed with the case if the student does not attend the meeting.
