What is a Programme Director?
Your Programme Director is responsible for the overall quality and direction of your course, making sure it’s well organised and provides a valuable learning experience for all students.
Three Key Areas of Responsibility:
Academic Leadership
The Programme Director plays a key role in making sure your course runs smoothly and keeps improving. They lead Programme Committee meetings each semester, where lecturers work together to review and enhance the programme. Overall, their job is to make sure you get a high-quality, well-organised learning experience.
The Programme Director also:
- Oversees exam results to spot and address any issues
- Reviews feedback from external examiners
- Helps create and update the Programme Handbook
- Writes an annual report to improve the programme based on feedback
- Works with marketing teams to keep course information accurate and up to date
- Addresses academic concerns and works with senior staff when needed
Programme Management
The Programme Director also helps shape who joins the course and who teaches it; helping decide when new lecturers or assistants are needed, taking part in interviews, and shaping job roles.
They make sure both students and teaching staff are set up for success from the start.
Student Relations & Pastoral Care
The Programme Director is there to support you throughout your journey. At Orientation, they introduce the course, explain how assessments work, and guide you on important topics like academic support, student conduct, and plagiarism.
They also work with other college teams to make sure you have access to the right supports when you need them.
Your voice matters too—through Class Rep meetings, the Programme Director listens to student feedback, ensures it’s recorded, and takes action to improve your experience.
In short, they help make sure you feel informed, supported, and heard during your studies.
